Kalie Carlton, RD, LDN, IFNCP

Outpatient Dietitian

(She/Her/Hers)

How would you describe your approach to nutrition counseling?

Integrative, personalized, and empathetic. I aim to help clients find sustainable wellness without restriction and simplify all the nutrition noise by getting back to the foundations. I like to use both traditional and non-traditional strategies to meet health goals and find peace with food. We’ll likely count colors, not calories! And always be striving to reconnect with your body for answers to the most difficult nutrition questions.

Which avenues of dietetics do you feel most passionate about pursuing?

This is my favorite thing about my career; the opportunities to learn and grow are endless. I am currently studying and working on a certification in Integrative and Functional Nutrition to help my clients identify the root cause of their medical concerns. Applying an Intuitive Eating lens to this work feels very synergistic and a unique way to find balance within all pillars of health. I feel passionate about always learning and building a bigger toolbox of strategies to best support my clients.

If you were to have any other profession other than Registered Dietitian, what would it be and why?

This is a tough one for me as I have never highly considered anything else but nutrition! I have always enjoyed planning, organization, and problem solving so I do think being an event or wedding coordinator would fit my strengths and my social personality. I also love and appreciate the visual and design aspect of decorating, but my overall artistic ability is nil, so I’ll stick to my science-minded day job for now!

Where can we find you when you're not in client sessions?

I will likely be spending time with my husband and our 2 dogs. I enjoy gardening, reading, spending time outdoors or on my kayak, and exploring all the fun (and good food!) Asheville has to offer. When it is safe to do so, I am greatly looking forward to getting back to traveling and live music!
